California lawmakers passed one of the most ridiculous this past week, banning the sales of metallic balloons starting in 2010.

New York lawmakers passed the most idiotic Internet law known to man (aka the Amazon Tax), which has already cost thousands of Internet marketers valuable affiliate programs like Overstock.com.

And congress continues to meet with oil executives whose companies are earning record profits while gas prices are skyrocketing and all we see are higher prices. And let’s not forget that our tax dollars are also subsidizing these oil companies!

I’ve come to the conclusion that our lawmakers are mostly clueless. They put us into wars that are based upon flawed evidence without question. They increase the size of our government and spend more money than any other sets of congress in the history of our country. They subsidize millionaire farmers and billionaire oil companies with our tax dollars. They pass wasteful economic stimulus packages that are just another form of subsidizing oil companies because that’s where most of the money is being spent.

George Carlin once joked that pro-gress is moving forward, so what is con-gress? A bunch of cons? A bunch of backwards thinking people who draw congressional districts so that they can make sure they keep their office rather than opening up the political race to legitimate competition. A bunch of public servants who believe they are higher than the people they were hired to serve.

That’s right! Congress was hired by We the People of the United States of America to do a job that they have failed to do. As much as anyone wants to blame Bush or McCain or any Republicans, they didn’t do it on their own. Hillary voted in favor of attacking Iraq. The majority of congress voted to attack Iraq. Congress passed a failed economic stimulus package that put more money into the pockets of oil companies and no money back into our pockets. Unless you started a Donny Deutsch style Big Idea, you spent (will spend) that money on gasoline.
