Deadly Balloons Nixed in California

A while back, we had written about the evil empire of metallic balloon sellers in California that were plotting to destroy the fabric of our society. Fortunately, California legislators had the brilliant insight to block this emerging shadow government from placing a stranglehold on our precious energy resources. Voting 22-17 in favor, the California Senate voted on May 29 to ban the sales of metallic balloons. The ban includes a hefty fine of $100 per balloon sale for any balloon sold starting in 2010.
Citing 200 and 400 power outages in Northern California and Southern California, respectively, the Senate sent a strong message to this evil empire of clowns and party stores. Our state will not yield to the tyranny of this axis of evil! Enron, sure… but clowns and party stores, NO!
Of course, I am being facetious. But here’s a question I’d like to ask the legislature: If power outages do not decline immediately after 2010 can the balloon manufacturers and sellers sue the state and utility companies for abuse of power (no pun intended) and compensation for loss of business? After all, shouldn’t our government be held accountable for their impact on business? When a government comes in yielding their absolute power in a democratic-republic, it should be held accountable for its actions, right?
I doubt this will take place. I doubt the balloon industry has recourse. They can appeal, and it is unlikely anything will change. Meanwhile, we have surging gas prices and blatant price gouging taking place in California and no pressure from our legislature around those issues. Perhaps they are expecting the reduction in power outages to make up for the economic loss of the oil company’s abuse of their energy position.
Some might argue that the oil companies are a national issue, but the last time I checked, California was still in the top 10 economies in the world. We are a world superpower and should act like one. If our Federal administration and senate is not going to look out for the good of us law abiding citizens, we should do so at the helm of the most powerful state in the union.

Of all the things we have to worry about in California. We should get a list of people who voted on this bill and can thier butts. We have a state in budget crisis, why are we outlawing balloons.
