I appreciate the sacrifice and service John McCain has made for his country, but I do not agree with his politics, nor do I think he is worthy of being the President of the United States. His convictions seem to sway with with what is convenient for him at the time and he has an impressive track record of saying stupid things.
Let me point out some factual examples:
- Torture: McCain, a long time opponent and one time victim of institutionalized torture completely flip flopped his position on torture back in February 2008 by backing President Bush.
- GI Bill Legislation: As a former GI, you would think McCain would honor our military by offering them a material benefit that would enable an entire generation to get back into society prosper as his generation was allowed to, but he opposed the recent GI Bill enhancements, again, towing the line with President Bush.
- Abortion Rights: Back in 1999, McCain was against an amendment to overturn the current amendment and wanted it made a non-issue for election topics, but in a recent interview, he was quoted as saying, “”I have stated time after time after time that Roe v Wade was a bad decision, that I support a woman — the rights of the unborn — that I have fought for human rights and human dignity throughout my entire political career,” McCain said. “To me, it’s an issue of human rights and human dignity.” (NPR)
- Bush Tax Cuts: He stated we couldn’t afford them in a time of war and now he wants to make them permanent.
- “Bomb Bomb Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran…” need I say more?
- “I hated the gooks. I will hate them as long as I live.”
- “The bridge in Minneapolis didn’t collapse because there wasn’t enough money,” McCain told reporters while campaigning in Pennsylvania. “The bridge in Minneapolis collapsed because so much money was spent on wasteful, unnecessary pork-barrel projects.” …Umm… that’s complex thinking Johnny boy!
- “Make it a hundred…That would be fine with me.” -in response to a question about President Bush’s plan to be in Iraq for 50 years.
- “Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father.” –at a 1998 Republican fundraiser
- “It’s not social issues I care about.”
This man is off his hook and I do not trust him. I once thought of him as an outsider, a person who walked to his own beat, but like George W. Bush, john McCain lacks discipline, refinement and perspective to be worthy of the job.
Obama has my vote, period.
