Third Lesson from Sex and the City

Human Beings are distracted by attractive nude/half-nude people of the opposite sex (or the same sex for gays and lesbians).

The lights dim and the movie begins to roll. The chatter is still going on for the first part of the movie. After all, women are much more sociable than men. Typical male response when the lights dim is to shut up and look forward. But this audience only had five men, and three of them were sitting next to each other. Dean and I were having a casual conversation, not really paying much attention to the screen.

Suddenly, the entire theater went stone-cold silent! I look up to see what was going on and there is a half-nude man on the screen. It was like witnessing a miracle. Sudden silence in a movie theater packed with women… instantly. A similar thing happens when men see a half-nude woman in a film. However, it is typically accompanied by a wave of “woah”s. Nonetheless, the over all effect of an attractive half-nude person on the screen is the same for both men and women.

The final lesson contains a massive plot spoiler, and I highly recommend coming back to read this article after you have seen the movie. If you don’t plan on seeing the movie, keep reading because it’s a good one!
