Second Lesson from Sex and the City

No matter how cliché the conversation may be about cheating, women will not laugh when a woman is cheated on.

There is a scene (don’t tell me you didn’t read the title about plot spoiling!) where Steve admits to Miranda that he cheated on her. I can’t quote verbatim, but it went something like this:

I had sex with another women. It only happened once, and I’m so sorry. You are such an amazing woman. I realize that now. It helped me realize that I really love you.

Any guy who has cheated on a woman has used some variation of that text. In fact, scientists have found the gene that is responsible for those words. It is ingrained in our DNA to make idiotic decisions and then come up with stupid statements like what Steve said. Yet, no matter how much I thought this was a funny moment in the movie, there wasn’t a single woman laughing in the theater. Actually, the women around me were quite annoyed by the fact that I was laughing.

I don’t find humor with indiscretions. I do find humor with the cliché monologue the writers chose to put into the film. It was such an accurate portrayal of the fallen man that I couldn’t help by laugh. No women in the audience seemed to find any humor in that scene.
