Food Waste. Why Order the Food in the First Place?

People who waste food are mind-blowing to me. It is particularly bizarre when I see people at a restaurant order massive lunches or dinners and barely touch their plate. Listen to this sound bite from the Jared & Dean Words Cause Radio Show on BlogTalkRadio.com about my recent visit to one of my favorite restaurants.
A couple sitting next to my girlfriend and I ordered a salad (hardly ate any of it), half an ostrich (hardly ate any of it), and then ordered cheesecake to go! This goes beyond having eyes bigger than one’s stomach. This is just completely wasteful. This ranks up there with the environmentalists that are causing our greatest environmental problems we face today.
There is a lesson for all of us here. We don’t need to order up more than what we need. If you don’t need the bags at the grocery store, don’t take the bags. If you don’t need the food at the restaurant, don’t order the food. Let someone else order the big meal who is actually going to eat it.
In the end, this wasteful behavior leads to higher prices for everyone. Smart consumption equals lower prices. Take that to the bank instead of a bogus socialist gas tax holiday.

People waste what is abundant to them. Its a terrible, seemingly natural behavior.

Mindblowing, but sadly very common, and in more contexts than just restaurants. A lot of it, IMO, is simple mental laziness, people who, more than ever, do not think about what they do, what they waste, what they effect.
More and more, it seems that many/most people today just don’t exert the basic effort to be aware of themselves and their basic responsibilities, resulting in increasingly irresponsible behaviors, resulting in increasing government regulations of everything, encouraging people to be even more mentally lazy, contributing to increased irresponsibility…
And these mentally lazy people are raising the next generations…
