Defining Success

Half way into the show, I started getting a little down. Technical difficulties had created some problems that we hadn’t encountered before. Still, there is the opportunity, right? Nothing every goes exactly as you want it to go. Especially when technology is involved. Computers often have a mind of their own sometimes. They are not always the subordinate slaves we’d like them to be. This Saturday morning was a great example.
After I finished beating myself up about this morning’s show, I cleared my head and went back to the show, listened to the entire thing and realized that sometimes success cannot be defined in the moment. Sometimes it takes 20×20 hindsight to realize how good of a job I’ve done, what success I achieved. The show was a great show that moved along quickly. It was everything it should be, minus minor glitches in the system. Dean and I handled it all very well for our first time.
The opportunity in dealing with these problems is tremendous. It trues us up as radio hosts. It throws a stick in the wheels so that next time it happens, we are not staring at our phones, cursing Vonage. The experience is the value!
Of course, I believe that this can be applied to many people about things we go through in life. The lesson is to take a break, look back on what you might have seen as a failure before, and perceive the experience through the lens of success. Chances are, we are all going to find a lot more success in our lives!
