Dean and I have been attending the annual Vung Tau Vietnam Vet motorcycle rally for the last 7 years. It is one of my most favorite motorcycle rallies. There is something about genuine biker culture that is great to be around. Most of the people at the rally would scare just about anyone they met walking down the street. Yet, these people are the nicest, supportive people you will ever meet.
Much of what they stand for has been lost in decades of cliché storied about Vietnam. These are the real people who were there. The people who watched their bests friends die. The people who came home to war protesters who spat on them and refused to employ them. The people who lived with decades of psychological trauma that was largely ignored or “taken care of” with large doses of medication.
The Vung Tau Vietnam Vet rally is a great experience with great men who love our country. Men who were willing to give life and limb for our country. It’s an honor to participate in this rally each year. The memories I have with a great friend (and first Gulf War veteran) are priceless.
