Leadership styles come in many forms. The Rebel Rouser is uniquely positioned as a leader of those who are typically disenfranchised, and those who enjoy bucking the system.
The fundamental success of Rebel Rouser, be it politics or business, leadership is that they are playing off of the discontent of a limited number participants in the system and disrupt the normal state of affairs. They rouse the continued discontent with the circumstances in the workplace or political/social environments. They listen well to what the problems are. That is where their control lies. By listening to the problem with the current system, they are able to determine what the hot buttons are.
After determining the hot buttons, they continue to survey the people for better fits to the hot buttons. They continue to listen for trigger points. Trigger points are such hot topics with people that these points actual compel people to act. Trigger points are such passionate points and are usually based on unfairness/inequity. For example, an employee is underpaid at work or certain people receive preferential treatment in society.
The Rebel Rouser is adept at pointing out the unfairness to anyone who will listen. The power of Rebel Rouser leadership comes from spreading the word of the unfairness or inequity to as many people as quickly as possible.
A brilliant modern Rebel Rouser is Ron Paul, and he follows the formula of listening for discontent and inequity and spreading the word about inequities as quickly as possible. This is why dozens of blog posts publish almost immediately after anyone from the Ron Paul leadership makes a major statement about an inequity in society or government. This is why Ron Paul’s focus is on inequities and faults in the current policies, our Constitution, and other pieces of the political spectrum.
In many ways, Ron Paul is not unlike our Founding Fathers. The United States was founded by rebels. We rebelled against the tyranny of the English Monarchy, and we were lead by many of the greatest rebel rousers in the history of mankind. George Washington was adept as rousing the rebel in anyone he came into contact with. The sharp pens of Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, and James Madison were unrivaled in the day for stirring people to action as well.
Ron Paul sets forth his proposed policy and dozens of people take action to write about the importance and greatness of the proposed policy. They argue the points of inequity, disrupt the normal state of affairs, and stir the emotions. They stand for something that they believe is greater than themselves, something that they believe in. This is the leadership style of the Rebel Rouser.
